code 44?
im getting code 44 but i changed the oxygen sensor already, and the car runs so badly, if it even stays running. to keep it running i have to set the idle air screw all the way down. any ideas on what to check next?
i have an 83 trans am 4bbl,
i have an 82 and 84 service manual but they both say different things and i dont know which one to go by

Re: code 44?
Code 44 is set when the 02 sensor signal voltage remains below .2 volt for 2O seconds and the system is operating in "Closed Loop".
02 Sensor Wire. Sensor pigtail may be mispositioned and contacting the exhaust manifold. Check for intermittent ground in wire between connector and sensor.
Fuel Contamination. Water, even in small amounts, near the fuel pump inlet can be delivered to the engine. The water causes a lean exhaust and can set a Code 44.
Fuel Pressure. System will be lean if pressure is too low. It may be necessary to monitor fuel pressure while driving the car at various road speeds and/or loads to confirm.
Exhaust Leaks. If there is an exhaust leak, the engine can cause outside air to be pulled into the exhaust and past the sensor. Vacuum or crankcase leaks can cause a lean condition.
If the above are OK, it is a faulty oxygen sensor.
Yes I find quality of parts a big issue these days, not surprising when the parts supplier is also your competitor in car manufacturing. Would you give your competitor your best parts?

Re: code 44?
it seems like ive double and triple checked systems, and even again this morning. but nothing. i dont think the intake manifold has a leak i just put in the gaskets,
should i just have a shop diagnose it? i dont know what else to check on it. I can say that the egr valve has never been replaced, and when you disconnect the hose it doesnt do anything nor does i affect the motor
