Fuel (kind of), Spark, and no start
Fuel (kind of), Spark, and no start
Hi all. New to the forum. I have a 1990 Firebird. 5.0 TBI. Just did tune up...spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter,a/f, and so on. I go to crank the car and nothing. VATS is functional. Fuel pump energizes. Plug wires are good and i have spark. When i opened up the fuel lines to do the filter, plenty of fuel on both ends. I have my brother come down and crank the car. Foot to the floor and fuel dripping out. Now before i go get injectors cleaned or new ones altogether, ive heard of something with the distributor and fuel delivery. some kind of module?..anyway any help and input is greatly appreciated.

Check the basics...
Engine needs:
FUEL: check for power to the pump and adequte fuel pressure with a guage.. you could have poor pressure with the pump functioning
IGNITION: Check for power to the ignition coil and spark with a tester at the spark plugs
Compression: the engine needs appropriate compression to ignite the air fuel mixture
You will have a problem in one of those BROAD fields. My guess is if you have a running engine first... you may have a self created issue. Rarely does a problem pop up right after work has been performed and its not.
Look for a knocked off coil wire or mismatch igntion wires.

yes..running car before this..i had just drove it to brooklyn and on the way back it started kind of stuttering..i could not downshift cause of the misfire..i had just picked this car up two days earlier..i knew it neded a tune up..just not that bad i guess..the fuel out of the tbi injectors isnt what it should be..now, assuming proper fuel pressure..shouldnt i see a bit more than a **** dribble..foot to the floor?...compression is dead on, so is timing...either way, parts are cheap, but its not like i want to.

I thought foot to the floor was for de-flooding the cylinders and would just send little fuel if any. On crank...but that might be just tpi's.
