062 vortec heads question

Hey guys, this is a good question for one of you tech genius
So I bought a block already bored .030 over for 30 dollars.... you heard me 30 dollars While rebuilding, I heard about 062 Vortec heads, and I may be able to get them. I am definately going with them if I can snag some. I need a cam that the heads can handle.

My question is.. How big of a lift can these heads handle with stock springs and rockers? I am aiming for at Least .460

Thanks to anyone who answers my question.

Re: 062 vortec heads question

Max lift according the CHP, which may or not be right, is .420 to .430

....but you can mod the valvetrain/springs to handle whatever you need. I wouldn't stop at such low lift after all the work to build the motor.

Re: 062 vortec heads question

Ah well, I beleive it may be closer to .460 but I am unsure. The reason I want to go with stock springs is a money issue. I can always upgrade to a bigger cam and springs in the future. I have all the tools needed.

Re: 062 vortec heads question

The springs are not the limiting factor on Vortec heads. It's the bottom of the retainer hitting the top of the valve guide boss/valve seal. The set I had a few years ago would take about .450" ish. They require machine work for more lift.
