I would like to have a high rise intake. I would like to use my stock Qjet carb. I will get a better cam too. And either rebuild or upgrade my heads. What are the pros and cons of a high rise? I have always wanted one with a butterfly scoop. What is a good brand?

just stick with what u got, a 305 doesnt need any hi rise intake manifolds.
if anything it will make your car slower,
unless your building 383+ci mech. roller cam with some 300cfm heads
then im all for it

"High rise intake" is right along side the good ol' "3/4 cam".
Meaning, it doesn't mean anything.
If you want a better intake manifold, then an Edelbrock Performer, Weiand Action+, or Holley Street Dominator fit the bill. They all "rise" about 1/2" higher than stock. They all will run a little better than stock.
But, none will have as much effect as changing what really chokes the 305 - the exhaust.

As for the butterfly scoop - well, you probably don't want to hear what I'd have to say about that.

A lot of people run high rise intakes. Here's mine (actually that's the same one that the guy before me posted). Love it.
I wouldn't bother doing it on a 305 though.

I had a spread bore performer air gap intake once that was awesome that would work good on your 305 if your keeping the Q jet. I would not bother upgrading your heads. I would go with something like the Comp cams High energy 252 cam add an exhaust system and call it a day as far as motor mods go. Should put you around the 225-250 HP range. If your looking at going with more power or are considering new heads I would look at getting a 350 and doing a cam swap in it instead.
