What should I do?

I have a 1988 camaro with a 305 v8 TBI. its locked up and needs new engine. I have 2 options. one is that i buy a 89 camaro 305 v8 tbi. or i buy a 305 engine from a 1998 chevy truck and put my heads and intake on it. What would be better. i manley concerned about whether or not the truck 305 will fit in my car and if my heads and intake will fit.

The motor in the 88 is shot. What about the transmission, and the rest of the car? Is it worthy of a crate motor? What can you honesty afford?

Re: What should I do?

Well lets talk numbers. If the motor cost $600 and the 89 cost $600 wouldnt make much sence to swap in a motor would it? Will the motor work? Sure you could probably make it work but the question is whats most economical. So what kind of condition is the 89 in and whats the cost of the car vs the motor.

I agree with rolling thunder.
Whichever is cheaper or has the better(less wear and lower miles) engine. The truck 305 will fit. If the 89 is in good enough condition and cheap enough, you could get the engine and sell all the other parts to recoup some cash.

Re: What should I do?

Cam would be different as would the heads but the short block would work. The truck heads are TBI swirl ports. great for low end torque but don't flow very good without some mods and porting.

Like I said in another post: If you buy the 89, bring the 88 here and I'll give it a good home.
