Want to swap v-belt for serpentine system
Hey, my '84 camaro has an '80 350 in it with a dual v-belt accessory drive system. Smog pump removed. I'd like to know if theres a serpentine drive system that can just be swapped onto it from a more recent small bock motor. would all I have to do is change the pulley's to be serpentine? I just want to know if theres a commonly done, not-so-much-of-a-pain-in-the-*** way of changing it over.
Thanks,
Oliver

You can swap a setup on from a later model 3rd gen, but you'll hafta swap things like the accessories.
Some things can just easily have the pulleys swapped, other items will need the entire unit replaced, since it is kind of a big deal to swap just the pulleys...Like on the AC compressor.
I believe the serpentine water pump is a different depth than the v-belt one, meaning you couldn't just swap the pulleys on it.

Re: Want to swap v-belt for serpentine system
I swapped from V-belts to serp. Perhaps the following link will provide some ideas and/or questions:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/afte...rsion-kit.html
Now that I think about it, your 1980 350 "may" not have all the necessary bolt holes. Seems I remember that some members were forced to drill/tap holes in the head(s). Sorry I'm bit fuzzy about that situation at this date. A search would provide more info, of course.
Curiosity got the better of me:

BTW, you'd need an 88-92 reverse flow water pump.

Great, thanks for the links! I won't be running A/C. All of it is gone besides the compressor, so I might as well get it outta there and sell it or something.
If water pump is a problem I might go with electric, who knows.
Thanks again!
