Ignition Lock Cylinder...

I posted this in the wrong place yesterday so Im deleting that one and now its here.

Ok problem is my ignition lock cylinder decided to lock up, the key wont turn it anymore and I cant get the car started or more importantly I cant get the key to the 'acc' position to remove the whole lock cylinder so i can replace it. I've asked a few places all ready and i've been told you yank it out with a slide hammer and a screw in attachment and it should pull it right out, i've also been told to drill the cylinder and once I'm deep enough it'll let me turn the cylinder to do it that way. I'd much prefer to yank it with the slide hammer but never used one on an ignition lock. Anyone have any experience doing this? any pprecautions i should take into considerations? Thanks alot

I have the same problem going on, except someone did me a favor years ago
by trying to steal the car, and cracking the column. I can't turn my key more
than a quarter turn, So I have to pull/push the aluminum inside lever inside
the column back with a screwdriver to start and stop the car.

and! I cannot even remove my key, it is a permanent resident!

Im sure it cant be too difficult, it's been on my "to do" list for months!

I'll let ya know how easy it goes for me later on today after I pull it. At least you got left with a way to still start the car, are you able to move the steering wheel or does that stay locked?

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder...

i just replaced my lock cylinder. napa has the chrome ones for like 20 bucks. you have to take the steering wheel off and there is a tool that napa sells to push down on the steering lock plate. then you remove the screws for the turn signal switch. once you do that pull out a little plastic piece next to a brown torx screw. take the screw out and the cylinder should slide out. i didnt need it in acc or on just off and i did it in maybe 15 minutes

Nah, I got lucky and I can move and drive the car.. but I have
to be super paranoid about leaving it unattended, because it is just
asking to be stolen!

Luckily.. she is a garage baby!
