Well befor we jump to conclutions Where does it smoke from the exhaust or just the motor in general? Did they remove and install it or did they just rebuild it and you installed it? Now for the cam do you have the specific part number so we can see some specs? It may be that you have a mix matched combo that will never perform well or that you need to do some tuning to get the thing to really liven up. Now the trans not shifting right did they do anything to it like a high stall or shift kit? Other wise ide say they installed it wrong and you need to see them anyways so i wouldnt worrie about any of this for the moment, dont touch the car and take it back to them as is.

Well if it smokes from the exhause when its just running im guessing rings or valve guids. We could do troubleshooting to figure out what it really is but it dosnt really matter eather way does it? They deffinetly didnt put it together right. Rings will take time to seal after a rebuild so i would expect buring a bit of oil but it shouldnt be smokeing like that. The cam dounds like it could work if youve got stock parts other than that cam your probably hurting a bit of your low end torque as its basic operating range starts building power from 1.5k rpms. It will work with the stock stall but i imagin it probably wants decent gears and compression. May need a bit of tuneing but the shop should have done that. Reguardless though it shouldnt be that bad as far as drivability is concerned. Ide say the you should pay the shop a visit.
