Ignition...
Not sure if this is where I should post this but... I am trying to fix my ignition system problem and and having a few problems. The guy I bought my car from (1990 RS original TBI 305 now a carbed 350 from 85 model truck) put in a crappy toggle switch start, and I want to revert back to the original system with the turn-key start. In order to start the car now, you must insert the key in the cylinder and turn it to "on" then flip the toggle. The car will not start without the key in or turned to on. However the car does not even attempt to turn-over with just the key. Does anyone know what I may or may not need to do in order to revert back to the original system, of course minus the computer because it is not being used with the engine. Also, I bought a new ignition switch (mounts on steering column) and a new lock cylinder with key, however the original key has a chip on the metal shaft which is inserted into the cylinder (i'm sure you all know what i'm talking about), but the new one (from auto-zone) does not. Is this going to give me problems? Any help would be GREAT cuz I do not like the set-up he has with wires running all over the place in the engine bay..... thanks,

From the thirdgen.org homepage, click on the Technical Articles link, and look for the VATS article (there are two of them, the 2nd one has the circuit diagrams). From that you figure out how to route the system to bypass the VATS circuits.
You shouldn't need the new key & cylinder.

You can get a multimeter and the resistor from Radio Shack. Or, I've seen multimeters in Wal-Mart for under $10. Good thing to have around.
