blown up plastic thing!
so i started my car today, and i heard the best sounding exhaust leak of my life! i loveit. low grumble... but anyway...
there are two lines coming off each header that run to this plastic piece on the engine on the passenger side, the plastic piece is part of a unit that bolts on top of the engine near the front.
what is it?
im gonna plug the line from the exhaust manifolds later so it doesn't hurt anything.
by the way,
its a 1984 camaro w/ 305 (LG4 engine). it's also a cali car (smog parts on everything.....)...
all help is much appreciated.

Re: blown up plastic thing!
chilton came in handy for once!
it is the Air Management valve?
doesn't give me too much of a description....
does this affec engine timing, or performance?
is it neccessary to have?
(of course it will be for smog, but for now do i need it? )
and as for replacing it, could i get one from a junkyard?
i also need the lines that run to the header....
it tore everything apart when it blew up.

Re: blown up plastic thing!
you should be able to get all the parts used, and it does not hurt performance or mileage. I'd recommend you leave it on all year round, not just at inspection. I heard that in cali the cops can pull you over, and make you pop your hood, and if it looks wrong, they can impound your car until you prove it's all legal as they saw it. If not, they can crush it. If that's true, don't risk it.
