1982 Belt Routing
Hi everyone. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched high and low, and couldn't find anything on this engine. It's a 1982 Trans Am with the 305, but it's the Canadian version, without the computer and all that stuff. It has 2 belts on it, one for the alternator, one for the power steering pump, and they decided to break on me yesterday. Does anyone have a routing diagram for this engine? I have looked through the owners manual, all over the engine bay (for a sticker), and all over the net, but I have found nothing.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, if there is anyone out there near Bowmanville, Ontario Canada (about 45 mins from Toronto) who is mechanically inclined, I would gladly pay you to do some work on this car, as finding someone locally who does carb work is difficult.
Thanks again everyone, and I apologize if this post is in the wrong category.

Re: 1982 Belt Routing
This is actually much simpler than newer cars with serpentine belts. Pop the hood, kneel beside the car, either side, and eyeball the pulleys. It'll quickly become obvious which accessory the front belt drives and which the rear does. Probably both catch the crank and the water pump, and some P/S pumps used dual belts, as did some alternators. Basically, run a string along the path of the front groove in the crank pulley, then re-eyeball it from the side. From the front, each one should look like a triangle. Then you can measure the string to know what length belts you need. When you're done you'll wonder why you stressed something so easy. Just dive in.

Re: 1982 Belt Routing
The P/S belt goes on the track closest to the engine and only runs on the P/S pulley and the Cam Shaft pulley (back track on the C/S pulley).
The generator belt runs on the track closest to the fan blades and runs around the gen. pulley, the water pump pulley and the Cam Shaft pulley (front track on the C/S pulley).
Follow Atilla's advice and the belts should line up as I described. Note the the Gen belt will be longer the the PS belt.

Re: 1982 Belt Routing
Thanks so much guys, that is great. This is my second '82 Trans Am, but I never had to do the belts in the first car, so I just wanted to make sure it was done right.
Thanks again, and I appreciate the replies
