air induction
air induction
I swapped a 1979 350 into my 1983 z28 eliminating ECM. Came with LU5 functional hood flaps. How can i get the solenoid on the hood to open the flaps again under throttle?

Re: air induction
Well theres always a wa to make things work. Now im not overly familiar with them and how they worked originally but i assume they were vacuum operated and controlled by some kind of an electric solenoind or something? Give me a few details of how it worked originally and how you want it to work now and we can work something out no problem.
Re: air induction
thank you for replying . originally went through ecm sensing low manifold vacuum under hard throttle activating solenoid. might there be a switch activated by throttle linkage that would work or possibly something on the accelerator pedal? i have a simple solenoid with two wires on the hood attached to the flapper arm. should open close to WOT.

Absolutly you could always install a $1 limit switch from radio shack and make it work when the throttle hits a certant point. There are also many set ups for throttle switches for NOS systems that are more expencive buy would require less fabricating to make it work. The only thing im thinking about is there are times when manifold vacume is low (when you want it to work) but the throttle is not really open all the way (heavy load conditions highway driving ect). Now it would probably be possable to rig up something useing a MAP sensor or vacuum sensor of some type that will make it operate base on vacuum rather than throttle position but again that would be more complicated but there also more opertunity to fine tune its operation more to your likeing. Things like maby in addition to some kind of throttle or vacuum control add a button for forced operation in the dash like some of the older cars had or maby make the flaps work off temperature rather than vacuume because when the motors warming up it might be nice to suck in hot under hood temperature air especially when accelerating reducing bogs ect but once its warmed up who wants to suck in hot air under any circumstances? So theres tons of possabilities just depends how much work you want to do lol.
