HELP SELECTING VALVETRAIN AND INTAKE PARTS.
so, I've got a 350 out of a 74 pickup and I want to rebuild it for my 89 RS. It's going to be a driver/maybe show car and I need a bit of help. I was looking at a 600cfm carb and a high-rise(is it worth the extra $80) spread-bore intake. I'm trying to keep everything mechanical. I was doing ok.
Then I started looking at cams...now i'm lost. I want to go with comp cams and I think I want to stay mechanical with solid lifters and around 112 deg. lobe separation. I am looking for some advice on what I should do for intake and exhaust duration, roller-rocker ratios, or just roller tip? Aluminum or steel, what size pushrods(chromemoly or steel), what else should I replace or upgrade? and what will give me the most low end torque and fuel economy? oh, and I'm on a pretty tight budget, like, 450 MAX. for the valvetrain: springs, lifters, retainers, cam, valves & rods. and that would be stretching a bit. is the stock one worth maybe keeping? is the Summit name brand good or are they too good to be true?

Re: HELP SELECTING VALVETRAIN AND INTAKE PARTS.
Personally if your looking for max torque/fuel economy pretty much the smaller the duration the better. You still want to maintain a high lift though. I would say like 206-212 duration on an asemetrical cam since youll be running stock heads. For an intake i wouldnt use a high rise for this build as the high rise design does yeild better performance in the high RPMs you want better torque and economy. For rockers i would use a true roller not just a roller tip if you can spare the extra money. Steel vs aluminum thats really a judgement call eather will work. For a street car i wouldnt use a solid lifter cam because in this case it offers no significant benifit. Solid lifters are great for high RPM performance however this motor is built for low end performance so you wont be able to take advantage of the added RPM range because performance will be dropping off at that point anyways. Plus theres the added maintinence issue. However your budget doesnt look too good for this kinda build. With budget parts it might be possable but with quality stuff its a stretch. Personally i dont care for summit brand stuff ive hade lots of trouble with them. Even though there stuff is made by other repuitable companies and other people rave about them i swear there made to different specs or quality. Then again thats just my oppinion.

If your heads need the guides and valvejob freshened up (most used heads do) anyway, then you might consider this:

I think beehive Z06/LS6 springs are going for around $50 on ebay.
