What pistons
What pistons
So I will not bore you with the two motors in less than 6 months story. will never use that builder again. but I get the joy of doing it over again. I had KB forged pistons in the last time and they were noisy as hell.I am looking for recomendations..
Motor is a Late modle 383 for a 93 full size. I am looking at somthing that will last and I will be running about 5-7lbs of boost through a whipple with AFR heads.
I am looking for a good set of forged pistons that will handle some abuse but if treated right last me 100k or so
Thanks

Re: What pistons
First, there are 2 kinds of forgings: Those made of 2618, and those made of 4032. 2618s are race pistons, they're for surviving detonation, not going 100K miles. Typically they require a piston to bore clearance around 0.005", and are probably what you tried. 4032s typically require more like 0.002" clearance, and are what you actually need. I'd start by calling SRP.

Re: What pistons
For quiet idle and 100,000 mile life I would use a quality KB or Speedpro or Mahle hyper piston.
If you have all your ducks in a row, they will easily handle the boost.
If you don't have your ducks in a row, you will have piston trouble wether cast or forged. "there's yur sign"
The piston to bore clearance is a lot tighter. These pistons can tolerate a much larger margin of varience in piston to bore clearance and still work well.
The larger hyper piston top ring end gap is critical.
What was the piston to bore clearance on your old motor with the KB forged pistons?
