Code 51... Prom
Code 51... Prom
I went out to clean my IAC. So, I put in the paper clip thing and turn it to ON so the IAC would extend the needle thing in a bag.
While I was in the car, I decided to see if there were any codes, and saw a code 51, which means something with the prom.
So, what do I need to check? I don't know if this is related, but a few days ago with the engine running, I was checking something and pulled the coolant temp sensor plug off for a minute.
Oh, and I disconnected the negative battery for a few minutes, then connected it back to recheck the codes, and I still have a code 51. Next, I'm gonna disconnect the negative cable for a longer time as maybe I didn't leave it disconnected long enough.

Re: Code 51... Prom
Chevy86, I had some other issues aswell including many bad data samples when hooked up to a scanner. I ended up replacing my wiring harness and all my issues went away. Don't know the exact problem though. Before I did that I swapped ECMs and the issue did not inprove so I looked elsewhere. I would suggest swapping an ECM in and then if that doesnt work try a difrent harness.
Don't remove your old harness first just disconect it and lay the new/used one overtop to see if thats the problem beofore you go tear out the old one and make a mess...
Remember if your swap ECMs to put your current PROM into the new ECM, I also swapped the RAM chip but I don't know if that was necasary. If your unsure I would swap it.
Good Luck!
