Oil all around my oil filter.

I'm sure the majority of people here change their own oil as well so as I was changing my oil today I realized the entire area around it is either very greasy or very oily. Its a black slimy substance when wiped on my hands. So I just wanted to see if anyone else has the same situation. It isn't much, but its enough for a thin layer. My brother thinks it may be leaking oil, but every time I've changed the oil it's been there and the amount doesn't appear to have changed. Every time I pull my car out I check for substances leaking (Of course, those of you who have been in the transmission threads know of my power steering fluid leak) and I've never seen oil on the ground. I always dab it and get the color and all its been recently is power steering fluid.

Thanks for putting up with me. Ever since I've bought this Camaro I realize how lucky I am to have it because my friend has a 2002 dodge stratus with so many more problems and I'm grateful how well these things run and the long lasting life. So thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and keep my Camaro on the road.

Yes, something is leaking in order to leave that film everywhere. Most likly, it was your power steering fluid (I say this because you said you had a leak here) getting splattered all over the place while you were driving.

Good call! I'll let you know if your right wednesday when I take it to the shop. That give me a little more peace of mind. :P

EDIT: It is on the bottom of my engine block. So it may not be power steering fluid.
