88 iroc motor mount question
hi everybody, names steve, new here, just figured id break the ice and introduce myself, im 20 years old and since i was about 13 ive wanted to get my hands on a 3rd gen camaro, well i finally came across an old 88 iroc z sitting in a field and i found the owner and the guy sold it to me for 200 bucks! with the title! well after a lot of money and work i got it running, and im working on getting it restored myself, ive done little stuff here and there, but its making some rattling noises that im starting to worry about going down the road, this thing rattles like a sob when going over bumps and all that, and when i come to a stop sometimes it sounds like the whole engine is moving forward, i here a loud jerking sound coming from the underside/front of the car, now ive heard it was motor mounts, and im just hoping to find some possible confirmation on that, and would i be able to just tighten them up? or am i going to have to buy new ones?
thanks

I seriously doubt it's the motor mounts, the design is virtually failproof.

Re: 88 iroc motor mount question
Welcome to TGO. The rubber in my OE motor mounts went south (if they're bad, replacement is the only fix). I replaced with poly and the engine's rocking motion went south as well. You might check the trans mount, which is more often the culprit than not. The rattling is unfortunately a common complaint about your cars.

yeah i kind of figured all the rattling was somewhat normal, i have a friend who used to have one and it rattled exactly the same, but it didnt make that jerking noise, and i cant believe i didnt think about the transmission, ill check that today, appreciate the help

Re: 88 iroc motor mount question
ok yeah, it was the transmission mount, it was missing 2 screws, so it only had 2 screws holding it in place and they were loose, wow thats safe.. i went to upullit and got some screws along with some other little crap i needed for the car, put them in and tightened the existing screws and it stopped doing that
now i have a new problem, ever since i got this car running something has been eating at the battery and i still have not found out what it is, well whatever it is, its getting worse and worse, keeps eating more and more power from the battery, well now its at the point that the battery is dying quicker then the alternator can charge it, ive replaced the alternator and i also replaced the battery, and its still doing the same thing, so there is either a short somewhere between the alternator and the battery, or i have something sucking power from the battery at a high rate
basically, ill jump it off, pull off the jumper cables, it will run for about a minute then the battery gauge drops down below 8 volts and the engine dies
and i highly doubt this could be the issue, but i had someone tell me that the circuit runs through the gauge cluster, and if there is something wrong in the cluster then it would get a poor connection from the alternator to the battery, and the only reason i bring that up is because all my gauges are screwed up, none of them work right except for the battery gauge, again i guess i wouldnt know, but that just doesnt make sense to me
