383 sbc with brodix track 1 heads question

I was wondering if any one would happen to know if the track 1 brodix heads with the 2.08 intake valves have enough piston to valve clearance with a cam with .550 lift? Also the heads have been milled down to 63cc and with -5cc flat top forged pistons.

Best bet is to mock it all up.

it should be alright.. i have a near .600 lift cam with 2.050" intake valves and i have more than enough clearance..

but mock it up to make sure.. its cheap insurance.

whats the duration of the cam?

My zero deck block with .041" gasket and 2.05" valve with 230/245 duration .603/.613 cleared just fine. 5cc flat tops as well, 383 motor.

Re: 383 sbc with brodix track 1 heads question

The amount of lift has absoulutely nothing to do with piston to valve clearnance! NOTHING!

When piston to valve clearance is an issue is when the piston is approaching the top of the cylinder, while the valve is starting to open, as you may guess they are going at eachother. This is nowhere near max lift, by the time the cam gets to max lift the piston is well down the hole, and traveling away from the valve.

Whether your pistons are flat top also has no affect, the only way your piston affects it is the depth and radius of the valve relief, and your description of the piston gives us no idea of this.

Your brand of cylinder heads also gives us no useful info, the only impact the heads have is valve size and how the valves will fit into the radius of the valve relief, and being a 2.08 valve it may or may not clear.

The reason for my post is to inform you the only way know piston to valve clearance is a check. The main variable is cam timing, and the size of the cam is not the only factor, two cams of the same size can open and close at different times. I would also like to point out again, that max lift has nothing to do with piston to valve clearance! Sorry to rant.
