fuel pump installation
I have to replace my fuel pump in my 89 iroc. It has a full tank of gass (of course) In my 4th gen they cut an access hole in my trunk. I'm planning on doing this one myself. does any one know if you can cut an access in a 3rd gen? if so where exactly? What is the best way to close the access back up?

Re: fuel pump installation
These cars are not so fun (or easy) to make a cutout on due to the hardlines reaching over and across the tank. You'd have to make a really big cutout to be able to make it useful.
I've been in your exact spot, and think you're gonna hear it from everyone else, but your best bet is to drop the tank. I siphoned out all the gas I had in my tank and pulled it down. Fighting with the exhaust, the rear end, and the tank, I was still able to drop and install the pump in one day.
Probably not the answer you want to hear, but there's no real easy way to do it on these cars. Now I thank GM for what they did on my 97 GTP; lower arm rest in back seat, lift up carpet, and remove 8 quick-nuts. done in 10 min.
