Vortec headed 305 against WC T5

im getting an LB9 out of a 89 iroc z i believe has 230hp and 295 ft/lbs...
i also have a set of 305 heads casting number 520 (which is apparently the same as the other 305 vortec heads, no swirl ports...) say i put those heads on stock (no potrting or anything...) along with the stock tpi (with a edelbrock tpi baseplate) would the t5 hold up to it? because i was once told that the heads will be at least a 30hp increase from tpi heads...
the 520 heads are the same as the iron lt1 heads but with regular coolant passages, i want to make sure im not gonna break the trans... i have been told that there are some cars with t5s in the mid to high 12s... but they didnt say what they were making, although i dont intend for it to make enough to get even past high 13s low 14s... but still wanna make sure...
thank you

cool... i was gonna tune it get the edelbrock baseplate, eventually the runners, and lt4 lightweight valves sprigns etc etc and call it a day but i started thinking... the t5 is kinda weak from what i hear...
but its gonna be stock other wise... i wanna make sure i beat my friends 09 stang... its a v6, but they still run low 15s from the factory...

It will work fine as long as you do not power shift it. I ram ny 305 5sp car to mid 13 without it breaking.

Re: Vortec headed 305 against WC T5

good to hear that... i found a lt1 cam out of a 95 z28, guy aid its the biggest lt1 cam from the factory... but that and the heads with lt4 valves springs etc and a sdparts tpi base and a nice tune... hopefully mid 14s...
is 9.7 comp safe with iron heads? i was thinking of using the .015 thick head gasket to increase comp... but for now that would satisfy me... my goal of mid 14s...
