Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

f-bodies are easy to get into (I drove tow truck for years, unlocked many)...one thing you could do is call a tow truck or locksmith if you have the money....but a coat hanger works....straighten it out and slide it between window and seal carefully on top on window...you'll have to bend it as you go and then push it down and hit the unlock button. It might take a bit if you never have opened a car before, and your not going to break window if you have to pry on it a little bit to get rod it....a lock smith or tow truck driver will do the same thing..just with a fancy coat hanger...you can get it, just keep trying at it...hope that helps..

Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

Find someone with a thin arm(girlfriend, cute girl in class, etc.) and you should be able to force the door window down enough for her to reach her arm in and unlock the door. Thats what I did the last time I locked my keys in the car. If your in college, try the campus police. The ones at the college I went to were able to get me into the car with a slimjim.

Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

Don't slide the window down....I mean you can, but you'll have to re-adjust window cause it probably won't line back up right....I wouldn't do that on my car...I wouldn't take the chance of breaking window or crank assembly....use coat hanger..slim jim on a f-body is harder than a coat hanger...trust me..I've unlocked hundreds of cars....get a bendable rod or coat hanger and push the lock open...I've been towing cars and unlocking cars for years....

Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

Yes....it'll take some bending and a bit of time if you've never done it....but that's how you do it...find a small wedge of something to prop window open just a hair, enough so that you can move coat hanger or rod around, and keep bending it and putting it back in until you hit the unlock button......that's how you do it...just don't give up when you do it...also you might have someone stand on passenger side of car and watch to help guide you since it's hard to see lock...if your by yourself you might be able to peak through front window down at lock as you try...but you FOR sure can do it this way.....

If you're gentle, yes you can. I don't mean the whole way down, but you can get 2-3" easily. You can also pull the window out from the car a lot farther than you think for more room.

And 91's right, you'll most likely need to adjust the window afterwards so that it seals properly to keep rain out. I've had my door and window apart so many times that I don't even think twice about it anymore.

use the hanger. use the end with the hook. slide it in through the back between the molding and the glass. move the hook down to where the slide is on the opener on the door and hook it and pull. i have done it many times.
and one more thing - go to a locksmith after you get in and get 4 copies of the door key made and one from gm for the key with the resistor in it.
i keep a spare key for the door in my wallet and a spare resistor key in the rear of the car - hidden.
dont try to pull the window - they are expensive to replace and unless your girl has arms the length of a gorilla she probably will not actually be able to reach it.

My wife did it, she's 5' 3". You're right about the window being expensive to replace though. That's why I said to be gentle. I wasn't worried about it at the time since the car was running. I also have a spare one in the parts pile. I was just trying to offer a solution for someone who doesn't have any tools with him. I didn't think a coat hanger would be easy to find at a school.

Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

you can pull the window back far enough to get it open by hand...but again I wouldn't do that unless emergency, plus you could break something, and for sure have to readjust window.....if all else fails, call a tow truck or locksmith....does your insurance cover towing?? if so it's probably covered to unlock you car....but you should be able to do it yourself.

In that case, yeah, that is definitely the way to go. It takes some time you're first time but can be done. I've done it with other cars. I would have done it that way with mine, but I removed the power door locks when I shaved the door handles. I didn't so much have my doors locked as just shut with the keys and remote in the ignition. That was last July, and I still have to hear about it every time we get out of the car.

Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

If your keys are in the ignition, call the police and say you lock your keys in the car and it's running. Around here they have to come out if the keys are lock in the car and the car is running. Once they get out there act like the car ran out of gas or tell them for some reason the engine shut off. I did this once cause I was downtown. The cop didn't seem to care much and did it, didn't even notice that the keys were not cranked. Truthful even if they did there is not much they could do.

Re: Help i locked my keys in my car

get a thin metal or plastic ruler and slide it into the door above the lock

press down on top of the lock with it and it should unlock it.

you gotta feel around alot if you dont get it at first, it can be tricky, but it costs nothing and it works ive done it twice.
