Fan switch plug keeps melting from header heat

Hey guys,

My fan switch connector plug (on the wire side, not the side the screws into the block), keeps melting from the header heat. It's not the plug itslef, rather the plastic clip around it that locks onto the switch in the block. This causes the stuipd thing to fall out causing my fan not to come on. Has anyyone else had this problem and if so, how did you combat it? I already put a piece of that spark-plug boot protective heat-sheath around it but to no avail. I've gone through two so far and its' starting to get expensive at $50 a pop for a new switch from Jet.

Hooker 2055 headers. I just had the car tuned and they said it was running really lean so that should be fixed. The most recent melting issue may have been from before they tuned it. I'm running the Jet Products fan switch. There is just a plastic ring that clips onto the switch which is what keeps melting.

The Jet switch is the one that screws into the head, correct?

Why not use a spark plug boot protector on it? It will look good, and protect it even if now that it's tuned, it's not running as hot. I think you can get a single for about $5-10.

As for the boot protector, the new clip is already melted but hasn't fallen off yet. I'm on my third one and yes, the Jet switch comes in two parts. one that screws into the head, and then the plug piece that you splice into your harness for it because it's got a special plug that's not compatable with the stock one.

Had it tuned at a dyno shop two weeks ago. It seems to be running better now though it HATES being cold..even after letting it run for a few minutes. Throw it into gear and it dies lol...needs to get warmed up good to keep that from happening. Now I just need to figure out how to keep the idle steady. It'll surge randomly and seems to stay a little higher than it should be.

Did ya ever figure out a good solution for the melting fan switch? I have the same headers with the same problem lol.

I wound up putting some heat resistant wire protector around it. Stuff you cna buy from summit. Then I put a spark plug wire heat shield on it. No one sees it so I'm cool with it.
