NOW what

ok i got a summit electric fuel pump, went cruising today romped on it and i get a bad miss like its starvin for fuel, start headen toward home and i dont hear my pump running anymore. wtf. look at my fuel pressure gaug and its bouning everywehere and rests at 3psi. get home and the pump has a faint humming noise to it... what happened to my pump? its also really hott to the touch, luckily i wasnt bottle happy this evening! also took the gas cap off and alot of pressure came out as took the cap off. is that a sign my pump aint pulling the gas out and just pumping? any ideas?

Re: NOW what

The pump sounds like it might be cavitating. Im not sure if yours requires a prime after installation, but I would check to make sure.

Re: NOW what

Cavitating is when the pump tries to turn, but theres no fluid to create the momentum for the wheel.....oh nm lol. Yeah, it may well have been vapor locking. Is it an in tank pump or external? Do you have a charcoal canister installed? And as far as the old pump, just remove it and install a block off plate.

Re: NOW what

it has an inline electric pum from summit, charcoal canister is gone, and so is the old mechanical pump and lines. i capped them by the tank to prevent leaks or fumes from coming out. by me capping all the lines, is there a vent line i should left open? i had alot of pressure come out of tank when opened gas cap. people told me its buildn up pressure and making pump overheat. that correct?

Re: NOW what

Try running it with the gas cap off, tell me if it runs any better

If you got rid of the return line for the mechanical pump you might need a vented gas cap.

Re: NOW what

Are you sure it was pushing pressure out of the tank when you took the cap off and not pulling a vacuum? Also where is the pump mounted?

you can get vented gas caps at any parts store, my favorite is Oreilly's (IMO). if you plugged your vent line that was going to your charcol canister like you said, and you still have the solid cap, then yeah, you are pretty much creating your own combustion chamber under your car. i did the same but since i have to have a locking gas cap i left my ventline alone and in the stock location and just added a piece of hose that drops down to "drip" on the ground. When i go to the track i mount my old overflow tank to it so it dumps into that and not on the track.

as far as smell goes with the vent cap you won't notice it unless you park it in a garage. Then it will smell like grandma and grandpas garage when they parked the old Buick in it..... but hey, we all love that smell

Re: NOW what

Gas Cap #6822 $6.99
Locking Gas Cap #5794 $14.99

Might want to call and make sure that they are vented, search came up with nothing using the word "vented" also, these prices and part numbers are for zip code 73109 OKC, OK so yours might be a bit different.

sorry, forgot, these are from O'reilly website........
