87 Iroc 350 my service dept steers clear of

i think its the whole sales vs service thing, but i can't seem to get anyone to care enough to do a job completely. When I bought this car I wanted to restore it for a daily driver supplement to my 93 t/a and it seems I'm having no luck.
1. it took $500 to fix an exhaust leak-manifold had to be decked and tech broke all but one bolt of course and took an entire day to get done... still seems like there is a small leak at y.
2. at startup it revs to 1700 and slowly drops to idle, then when you put it in gear it again wants to GO! Once its warm, if i sit stopped in gear for about 5 seconds it will again idle back down to where it should be and then seems fine. Otherwise run all the way up to 3rd gear on its own idle strength. They "think" its the MAF($$$$$) I'm not a gambler.
3. the shifter linkage setup barely lets me put it in park. I bought a new one and had them install it... problem still exists, when in 1st it looks like 2nd, drive looks like n..
I have new bushings for the dr. door, a lock actuator and more I can't get them to put on.. I don't get it. Anyway I'd sure like to get the Idle issue and the shifter deal resolved before there are results. Anyone help??

Welcome Aboard!

1. The leak at the Y pipe could be an alignment issue. You'll have to revisit the installation to make sure the pipes are properly aligned and engaged far enough to allow adequate clamping.

2. The high idle is almost assuredly NOT the MAF. They are guessing with your money. The problem is a sluggish IAC. Remove, clean, and lubricate the IAC pintle, clean the stepper motor, and re-tension the IAC pintle spring, and it should return to normal.

3. The shift linkage simple adjustment of the cable housing anchor position.

For the bushings and door lock actuator, If I wasnt going to do the job myself, I would look to a local body shop to do it. At least they know how to re-align the door once the new pin bushings are in.
Good luck!

Sales vs. service.....been there, lol. That's why I made sure I was on good terms with all tech's....it'll help you not only in your personal experiences but with customer vehicles too. Even if you do so though most probably haven't even seen a carburetor before unless you run into an experienced A Tech.
