power steering ?

when my car is at idle i have no power steering but once i give it a little gas it kicks in it also does the same thing driving it, its a brand new pump and as far as i can tell the belt is not sliping on the pully, one other thing that i have noticed but not sure if it has anything to do with it is that the seal above the pit man arm in the gear box leaks a little, not sure what to do any help would be great thanks alot

Model year and make would help. So would engine size and VIN code.

Was the pump just changed?

Pitman shaft seals aren't too hard to replace. Years ago, GM used to list a kit in the parts book. IIRC, it's two seals and some hard spacers. The seals can be replaced with the steering gear on the car.

Re: power steering ?

I would say there's something wrong with the replacement pump.
