Rasping Noise from Front of Engine

Hi,

Lately I've been getting a rasping noise from the front of the engine near the alternator, water pump, serpentine belt, etc. Could it be the tensioner pulley bearing making noise? The alternator only has about 10,000 miles on it. The noise usually appears only at high rpm, around 2,000 or higer, but it makes the noise at idle once in a while, too.

The noise appears in neutral as well as when driving.

Thanks

Can you describe the sound alittle better or post a sound clip? Second If you suspect it to be one of your accessories, you can always take a mechanics stethoscope and have a listen to them. If it is one of them youll put the stethoscope to one of them and it will be much louder. Could also be a belt you woudnt think so but they can make some very strange sounds.

OK, it sounds like model airplane buzzing sound, or like a small motorcycle motocross engine, really annoying. More of a buzz than a rasp, actually. And sort of like the classic "card in the bicycle wheel spokes".

Did you try taking off the belt and spinning each accy. buy hand? Sometimes it's the simple answer.

Actually in my car randomly when i shut it off it wants to make a hissing noise by the A/C stuff in the pass hood compartment area my A/C doesnt work but i try and run it every now and then to see if it might kick on (stupid I know but someone said it might need to "Warm UP")

It turned out to be the waterpump ! I replaced the waterpump when it started to leak, and the noise went away.
