well the piece that holds on the power steering pulley is the power steering pump the pulley is what helps pump the fluid to help the smoothness of the steering on power steering. so you have to replace the whole piece the power steering pump and all. unless the pulley is stripped and that's what your repacing. but i don't even know if thats the way it works normally you replace the whole unit.

on a side note me and my friend on both our cars cut our power steering off at the lines and just looped them to keep fluid in and basically turned it into a rack and pinion. but yea hope that answered your question.

Unless your friend has some kinda magic wand disconnecting the p/s from a gearbox doesn't turn it into anything resembling a rack and pinion.

Re: power steering pump/ Help!!!!!

The pulley is pressed on and requires a special puller to remove it.

Yeah. It's a press fit.
You can replace the pump and pulley separately.
You can also do it with the bracket still mounted to the engine. You may have to remove your fans though if you can't get enough room for the puller.

Re: power steering pump/ Help!!!!!

The puller needed to remove the power steering pump pulley can be 'borrowed' from AZ or one of the other chains. Do not try to use a claw type gear puller. It will damage the pulley.

Your local store may even do it for you if you bring in the parts and ask nice.

Our gearbox type is referred to as Recirculating Ball which is mechanically different from Rack and Pinion.

Hi, so in order to remove the p/s pump, i have to remove the pulley while the p/x pump is still installed?. do i need flare nut wrenches for the hoses?
