Carb issues

First off, thanks to all the help in the suspension forums. Hopefully I'll get some good answers here as well.

My car is acting up. I have a 305 4bbl auto, base model. I have a friend who was concerned with the clicking of the mixture control solenoid. I allowed him to unplug it to make him happy with the intention of driving 1/4 mile down the street and plugging it back in. Unfortunately, the weather pack connector broke (probably while reinstalling the air filter). Of course, this caused the SES light to come on, but since I knew what it was, I was unconcerned about it.

Due to hectic schedules, I was able to get a new weather pack connector with pigtail, but it came with no directions on how to wire it. Since there are only two wires, I tried both ways, but could not get the solenoid to fire. I reset the computer via battery disconnection. Still could not get the solenoid to fire. I tried to read computer codes via an OBD 1 device and the paperclip trick, but could not get the computer to respond, even with a code 12.

I am unsure whether the computer is shot, or if there is another way to reset the computer. My inspection was due May 2009, but it is only a safety inspection. I do not know if the SES light will cause me to fail.

If anyone has any suggestions, I am open to them. Please make technical explanations dumb enough for a monkey to follow them; this is definitely not my area of expertise.

Also, I am fed up with the POS stock trunk pull-down unit. Is there a manual latch available for an '87 model?

Thanks for all the help!

Does he not know it is supposed to do that?

Sounds like he doesn't know it's supposed to do that. Don't let him touch or give advice about your car again.

Re: Carb issues

You most likely allowed the MCS pigtail connector to short to ground while it was unplugged and tripped the ECM fuse under the dash. Check that fuse and report back. Sometimes it's just that simple (though not always).
