remanufacerd engine ?

I just got an 89 rs i was told it was a 350 but it look's like an 305 tbi. So today i went looking for the engine casting. All i found was an remanufacterd tag that has the number 395711 on it. if anybody can help me or tell me how to find out what block or motor it is it would help a lot . Also it might have 305 heads on a 350 block thanks in advance

Re: remanufacerd engine ?

The casting number at the back of the engine can determine if it's a 4" bore block to be a 350 or a smaller bore 305 block. It's unlikely they would go through the trouble to grind off casting marks.

Depending on what year the block is, there may be a 5.0L or 5.7L cast into the side of the block.

Although it's unlikely they'll still be there, look for stamped numbers on a pad in front of the passenger side head.

If none of those provide any clues, the only other way to know is to pull a head off to see what size the bore it.

Re: remanufacerd engine ?

Nah, stephen's right, your bets bet is to check the numbers.

Like he said, if the numbers are not there or if you can't find them you could pull the head off and check the bore. But that's alot of work just to check it.
