Thinking of making a purchase but wanted to check...

Ok.. I posted on here a while ago and well had some issues come up but looking to get back into building up my 87 IROC... Now I posted a while back and when I purchased the vehicle the owner told me that it had a new engine put in.. upon further investigation I learned that the 5.7 V8 that they threw in actually was meant for a truck however it could be used in the camaro.. now after talking with some people they have said that a 5.7 is a 5.7... so if you are buying parts it doesnt matter what it was "supposed" to into cuz it a chevy 5.7.. i just want to confirm this because i am looking into purchasing the Trick Flow TFS-K315-465-450 which si their "Power Pack" that they sell on SummitRacing.... But I don't want to spend 2000+ on something that I find out will not work.. I already purchased Edelbrock Hi Flo Runners and Baseplate.. Just thinking this would be a nice addition and get some nice hp numbers.. the summit site has 465hp listed but not sure if that is what the kit gives.. seems kind of a cheap price for that much hp.. thanks for any insight..

a sbc is a sbc as long as its the same family. only difference would be exhaust manifolds i think. maybe a few other things.

The "truck" definition that you mention is probably talking about how many of the rebuilt 350s are "truck" motors, meaning they used parts very commonly found on the later 350 trucks. Fairly low compression ratio, mild cam specs, and the swirl port heads. That's a stock configuration - a collection of parts. Pop off a valve cover and check the casting number for verification of a "truck" motor.

As far as parts bolting onto the block, heads, etc. For the most part, yes, SBC is SBC and anything small block would bolt up. Few differences being the intake changing bolt patters in the later years and centerbolt valve covers (early years being perimeter bolt).

The kit you are looking at would work just fine. The one thing to consider, if you're EFI - that's a pretty decent sized cam for EFI. Tuning would be required to get it to run correctly.

While that top end kit will "work" in the fact that it will bolt onto your engine, it will take a lot of work in tuning the ECM for that monster cam (230/234 @ .050) to run right. Also, with the stock style TPI intake it will severely choke down those HP humbers. Expect something around maybe 350-375 HP, after tuning.

It can be made to work, I just want you to know what you're getting yourself into.

Side note: The picture Summit and Trick Flow have on their websites show a Ford top-end kit. That was confusing the crap out of me.
