help asap, need car for work!

Hey, i got a 1988 firebird v8 5.0 TBI motor.

i checked my timing last night with the tan/blackwire disconnected (like it says in under my hood, right next to the blower motor resistor) and set my timing to 0* (like it said under my hood)

but now everywhere i look, people say it should be 6* Before top dead center.

What is the correct timing for my car? please help.

(also, to reset the computer, just unplug negative battery terminal for like 20 mins, right?)

Should be set at whatever it said under the hood. So you have it set right.
