Short list

Okay, so I got an 89 RS with a TBI 305 in her. Upon first getting my hands on it there was zero charging going on. battery was good, alternator was fine. both swapped out for good measure. well, I fiddled with some wires in the charging circuit and now it all seems to be working. My battery gauge has this issue where it will show only 9 volts sometimes. Onto my more pressing matters. It has had a hot running issue since I got it a few weeks ago. Also, it has what I believe to be the hot start problem. I don't know if I'm backing this up with the fact that the temps are getting a bit hotter and a bit quicker and the frequency of the hot starts increasing but, I think that is involved with the addition of headers this last week. she currently has a tendancy to operate at 220+ and an inability to handle stop and go traffic due to rising past 240+ easy peasy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Short list

As far as the voltage problem, you could try a new ( - ) neg. wire from bat- to - block and sand the block where the ground goes? In short > Faulty ground will result in lower voltage. Just asking the basics > Is your fan coming on? New thermostat? New temp switch? Good luck!

Re: Short list

Voltage is fine. I have obsessively checked it with a multi. Alternator is cranking out 14.4ish. It just makes me paranoid. Due to the lack of sleep, I will probably forget to write a lot of things down, also I pulled the keyboard plug earlier and it has an annoying lag to it now..

Fan kicks on (didn't pay attention to what temperatureish it was at) I checked on the tstat by squeezing the upper rad hose every few minutes until I felt the coolant slowly start building up in it.

Re: Short list

UPDATE: Okay, so I did the Ford starter solenoid install and that seemed to do the trick for my hot starts. I have noticed my fan turns on when the motor is already really hot so I'm just going to hard wire the fan to continuously run at least for the rest of the summer since It probably won't hurt much (plus, I have a spare fan!). I do however think that I had two starting problems simultaneously. When the interior of the car gets warm (like in the afternoons after work) she won't start. I can keep trying forever and it'll never start... haha. But, if it doesn't start and I wait, say, 2-5 minutes without touching it, she fires right up. PASSKEY problem?
