Re: 5.0 383?
With a 5.0, best you hope for is a 339 and you can't run 2.02 valves in the smaller bore.
Same thing as starting with a 350.....030 over & a 400 crank, turns a 305 into a 335.
Either buy a new engine/block to build, or be happy with 339.
Google Research Results Linl Here
I suggest getting a 350 block to start building from, if not a full 350 engine (to start building with).

rebuildable 350's are a dime a dozen, get a 350, enjoy the cubic inches.

Re: 5.0 383?
If the engine you thought was a 350 and is really a 305, it's physically impossible to make a 383 from it. You can't bore the cylinders enough to get the same bore as a 350 block. As mentioned above, the best you can do is make it into a 335. Using a 350 core, you can spend the same amount of money it would take to make a 305 into a 335 as it would to make a 350 into a 383.
Start with a 305, spend money to increase a small bore engine to less than a 350 or spend the same amount to make a 350 even bigger.

You can drop in that 383 & tell the Rustang, he just got beat by a 305!
My old 78 Stepside truck had "A 350.....More or less."
At least, thats what I always told everyone, yet my "350" only lost 2 races. And I already knew I was gonna lose one of those. I just wanted to see that car run. Thread
