help with dist. install

I need help! I am installing a new msd non HEI dist. into a carb. 350. I turned the engine until I saw the intake open and close on the number one cylinder and then lined up my balancer at 0 TDC. I dropped in my dist. so that the rotor points to the number 1 cylinder. I marked the dist. and then put the rotor on. The problem is the mark is between 2 plugs and I do not know what to do next. Any help will be appreciated. which one is the number one spark plug?

thanks
Jesse

Re: help with dist. install

The number one spark plug is the first one on the right at the front of the motor. Now, In order to get your distributor proporly timed you MUST FIRST bring the engin to TOP DEAD CENTER. TDC is when the number one cylinder is at the top of its stroke just before cumbustion. To verify this position you should take off the drivers side valve cover to watch the rocker arms. Once you have seem the exaust open and close then the intake open and close, look at your timing marks on the harmonic balancer. When the mark points to ZERO, put the rotor in so that you are holding the vacum side with your left hand and the sparker pointing at about 5:30. Then, shabam, it should drop right in. I just got done reinstalling my distrubutor myself after having to replace my intake gansket on my carbed 305. I am sure I just went into way to much deatail so I am sorry if I did, I hope this was helpful though. Also, if you want a visual aid, you can go get a haynes or chiltons manual and that with help a bit. Also if you just google distrubutor instalation, there should be some vids on youtube and various other sites. I am not the most mechanicaly inclined of people and I was able to to this, so not to worry it is not that bad.
