Burning oil
HI guys I wonder if anyone has any idea what to check for on my 305 tpi. The other day I removed the cat which is legal to do so in the UK and fitted a QTP electric cuttout in its place. But since doing so it has been burning oil and on an 200 mile run after doing an oil change it has gone from max on the dip stick to the add oil mark. I found It smokes very bad when I coast along with no throttle and when I hit the gas again it I get a big cloud of blue smoke and smells of oil. The car is an 1989 has 55,000 on the clock
Iam not sure if its anything to do with fitting the cutout or if its just a coincidence its happed at the same time.
cheers for your help

Cheers Yeah I have been thinking the same way, It has low miles but it still 20 years old and they didnt put very good seals in them.

Re: Burning oil
Pull the spark plugs, if there oily you've probably got some worn out valve guides.
Weak rings may cause for the plugs to be oily, but it's less likely.
You should also replace the pcv valve, probably won't do you much good but it won't hurt and its cheap to do.

Re: Burning oil
I had all the plugs out when I done the valve seals and all are a very nice light golden color not black at all.Took it up to 120mph today and quite a bit of smoke from it at high speed but when driving round town no smoke, its sure got me guessing. What with the code 33 that wont go away Maybe its time to sell it out.
