Seafoam thinning my oil?
Hey guys, this isn't a Third Gen, but you guys are good....so I figured I'd ask. It's a 1981 T/A btw.. I recently put some seafoam into my turbo engine to clean it out. I read on different forums about how to use it. I put some in the gas, oil, and through the brake booster. My question is, can the seafoam be thinning my oil out causing the car to smoke on startup? I know about the smoke seafoam causes when it's burned, but this is blue(oil) smoke. The car didn't smoke before, but now it smokes like the valve seals have gone south. What do you guys think?

How much seafoam did you add to the oil? How long has it been in there? I've used it in the fuel system without problems before, but I've never used it in my oil and would be extremely apprehensive to try it that way.

Seafoam is light oil, naptha, and alcohol. It will definitely thin your oil if poured into the crankcase.

You're just supposed to pour it in there and run it for 50 miles or so then do an oil change, it cleans out your crankcase.

Thanks for the replys!
I will drain it asap. Do you think the seafoam thinned out the oil enough to get past the valve seals?

Re: Seafoam thinning my oil?
My two cents:
Often our older cars have a build up of deposits around the various seals that keep them from leaking, even if they are getting in bad shape. I think maybe the Seafoam cleaned those deposits up, and may now be making seals leak that didn't before. (Similar effect as people whose vehicles leak oil for the first time after using synthetic oil).
My opinion anyways... could be entirely wrong.
