could I have screwed my motor?
hey guys,
ok, just yesterday, the FPR on my HSR decided to leak into the vacuum line. Long story short, the car started to run rough on idle and then stalled. Just as it's about to stall, the car would start to puff some light bluish smoke. Fired it up a couple times after the stall just out of curiousity.
I was able to pull off to the side of the road to pop the hood to check things out. Started it a couple of times, and it would run fine for a minute, and then it'd die. While poking around under the hood, I noticed the vacuum line on the FPR was a little loose with gas pooling up by the distributor cap. I went to reposition the vacuum line and that's when I saw that the FPR was leaking.
Decided to limp it to a nearby gas station that was about a mile away (maybe 2 miles, but I drove by again today, and it's more like a mile). While limping it, the car sounded like it was misfiring pretty bad.
I had to fire up the car twice; once to reposition for the tow, and another time to drive it up the incline of my driveway into the garage.
Total running time wasn't really that much, and when I limped it, I was doing about 2500rpm in 2nd gear all the way (no stopping). I'd say the limp to the gas station was just a few minutes.
I am not too worried that it ran lean at all, cause I'm sure that the motor was running quite rich with gas probably being sucked through the vacuum line into the HSR. I am just worried about the misfiring.
The motor has probably about 300 miles on it. Basically an HSR with 32lb injectors, solid roller cam, forged pistons (flat top), Scat rods, aluminum heads. Nothing crazy, but a definately a good street/weekend warrior motor.
Should I be worried at all?
The car does run fine for a good 1-2 minutes before it starts to chug and die.. so I"m taking that as a good sign.

Get your FPR fixed, then pull the spark plugs and clean them. That's probably about the extent of what you're up against. Glad your fuel leak didn't become a more serious problem.

Re: could I have screwed my motor?
thanks quick,
This is actually my 2nd FPR from Holley. I came home, did a search on the boards and noticed that other 3rd gen HSR owners have had issues with the Holley FPR. Just ordered a new one from Kirban.
The first FPR I got actually hydrolocked the original motor. I didn't know that it had leaked and I guess it leaked quite a bit to the point where it actually filled one of the cylinders.

Re: could I have screwed my motor?
Check your fuel return line. If thats blocked the fuel pump wont stop running and the only place fuel will be able to go is through the regulator diaphram.
