Need help with shifter wiring..5 speed to auto

Hey there. I am converting my 5 speed to an auto 700R4 and am trying to find out the wiring for the shifter. I got a shifter out of a 91 camaro. The shifter has a total of 6 wires. The wires are...

1 thick purple wire maybe 12ga
1 thick teal wire maybe 12 ga
1 small orange w/black tracer
1 small black w/ white tracer
1 small light green
1 small dark blue

The wiring diagrams I have show the neutral safety switch being the orange w/black and black w/white. I am pretty sure that the light green is for the reverse lights, but what are the other wires for?

Also, my clutch start switch has a yellow wire going into it and a purple coming out and goes to the starter. So do I take the yellow of the clutch start switch and have it go to the orange/black on the shifter? Then the black/white tracer wire from the shifter should go back to the purple of the clutch switch and the engine should start hopefully. Any help.info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advace!!!

Re: Need help with shifter wiring..5 speed to auto

I just today did this. My shifter is from a '91 Camaro I had, I just put it in my '86 S-10 that was built with a T5. But my shifter has a large yellow wire adjacent to the large purple wire, and these were easily spliced to the identical-gauge yellow and purple wires going into the clutch pedal switch. That got the 350 cranking in park. Right now I'm eating lunch, before tackling the other 4 wires from the shifter. I'll update tomorrow at lunch.

^^^^ Hey Atilla, you done eatin yet?

Mine is a 89 Camaro Convertible.

The Bigger wires are Purple and Green with white stripe ( Clutch Safety Switch)

The two in the middle are blue and green, and they are for the Reverse lights

I dont know what the last two are for. Not needed for the swap I assume.

Backup, Back up, T5 conversion, shifter, cables, orange,

Larger dk green wire is 12v+ coming into neutral safety switch from a starter enable relay (that you won't have since you don't have vats). You can run the larger yellow wire from your old clutch switch and splice it to the dk green wire.

Larger purple wire is 12v out to the starter - you can splice this into the large purple wire from your old clutch switch.

The rest I don't know off top of my head - one is for rear hatch switch (so it doesn't open when car in gear), one is for reverse lights, etc. Black with white tracer should be a ground I think. All the wiring diags here:

http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

There's alot of extra diags farther down the page for a 1992 - you can reference those as well as it would all the the same as the 1991 NSS wires.

Is the Park / Neutral INPUT switch ; not P/N safety switch
Lets ECM know car is in gear so it can adjust idle revs
