Really high idle but not everytime.

Hello I dont post here much but I need some help. My 1991 formula firebird is idling high around 2, 2.5k rpm, but the thing is it doesn't do this every time i start it up. It does it maybe around once a day and I half to let it sit for a while then start it up to make it idle normal. Now the known problems I have is a dirty airfilter and a leak coming from my left header, could any of these be causing this problem? if not what could?

thanks

Its a 5.7l fuel injected 350 and the only mods are it has new headers, I did not put them on myself.

Re: Really high idle but not everytime.

sorry if im telling stuff you already know but from what im getting out of what you said sounds like the choke. happens once a day like in the morning or just when you start it up right? well its normal for you engine to run a fast ideal when you first start so it can reach operating temp. here is an easy way to test if this is what im talking about when you start your car rev it then it should drop back down to normal, or just let it run for a few mins. if this is not your problem then you have problems further in. did your problem happen after the headers?

tip: SSS = start simple stupid, just a fun little saying to save you some time and money.

good luck

No it wont go back down until I let the car sit for a while, The headers were put on before I bought the car but this is a newer problem.
