Reground Camshaft
I bought a reground camshaft from Delta Camshaft in Tacoma, Washington. Its a roller cam. I took it out of the box to examine it, and it has some pretty good nicks in it. Some of them are right on the edge of the bearing journal. One nick is smack in the middle of the journal. I can fell it when I runmy fingure across it. With my finger nail i can catch my nail on it. Will or could this be a problem? I dont think I could sand it out. It is a deep nick. Couldn't this hurt oil pressure, and cause cam bearings to go out. I bought my last cam from them and it looks really good. Is it a big deal or not? Any info would be a big help, Thanks.

Send it back. It needs to be pretty smooth otherwise you risk damaging the cam bearings which will lead to low oil pressure. I mean depending on how its actually damaged it may be no problem but why risk it?

a re-grind can be great , i remember getting some from crane in the '50's . bottom line , if not shipping damage the shop should/will make it good . ( damn i'm old ) good luck . Thread
