ZZ4 & Hotcam ignition timing questions

Hi Guys, I am doing a little research & looking for pointers before tweaking/tuning my new powerplant. I am running a ZZ4 based carbed engine with the full LT4 hotcam kit. The car seems to run strong right from the get-go, but I know there must be more to be unlocked. I am currently running a MSD igniton & distributer I have my initial timing set @ 10* with a conservative advance of 20* = 30* (good at math, aren't I)

Anyway, I have heard the ZZ4's liked to have around 10* initial & a total of around 34* Now that I am running the hotcam, I am thinking I can bump up the inital mark a bit to compensate for the poor low RPM combustion, & should be able to have my total near 34 -36* ???

Just looking to get some input from you guy that are running a simular setup so I can cut down on my test drives, & distributer adjustments

BTW, I also currently have my curve fairly quick. Its all in at 3200 RPM

Thanks, Carl

Re: ZZ4 & Hotcam ignition timing questions

I'd bump it up a few more degrees and see how it likes it.
