I am looking for the last digits of the VIN (not the build location and date) located on a 1989 block. I have 1988 and 1990 factory service manuals but not an 89. The 88 manual indicates the VIN is in the usual location at the stamp pad on the front of the block, passenger side. My 1990 manual indicates only the engine ID number is on the front stamp pad and the actual VIN derivative is on the drivers side at the rear of the engine on a vertical pad. So which location are the actual VIN digits located on an '89 block?

I was always told the VIN number was casted on the block under the heads, I don't think a VIN is worth fooling with my head though. I have a similar issue, all I know is my head's casting number (462624), found it on Mortec, but I really want to know what vehicle my unoriginal 350 is from, all that casting number tells me is it's from 1975-1986. If you find out anything, let me know.
