My brother has an 86 TA with four wheel disk brakes. Is there some trick to bottoming out the pistons? We spent a good amount time of trying, but to no avail. Do I need to do anything with the handbrake mechanism? The brakes worked just fine before, so I don't think the calipers are bad or seized...

if you're refering to the rears, they need to be spun in. there should be a giant cross pattern in the piston; grab yourself a universal tool from your local part store (looks like a cube with little pins all over it) and spin away

fronts, just an old pad and a c-clamp

i recommend the cube.. you can put a ratchet of them.and use the disc brake quiet stuff, and becareful with the antirattle springs

 

exactly what I was referring to. I know I bought one of these specifically for this purpose on my 89 and sold the car before I got a chance to do the job. Now if only I could ever keep my tools in the box, I wouldn't have to buy them a second or third time.....
