I went to their website, looking for flowbench results, didn't find any, and sent an e-mail. Here's what I got:they are cast in China. We have a foundry there that does about 50 different castings for us. We then bring the heads in a “ semi raw” state, do the final machining, install seats, guides, perform valve jobs, milling, assembly, etc. right here in the US, just like GM. We do not usually post our flow numbers on the 185cc heads because we usually sell them to machine shops and porter who wish to open the heads up with their own porting. The heads do flow around 245 @ .600.
How many of you think this is a good answer? How many of you have over 0.550" valve lift? How are we supposed to know if we need a single pattern cam, or a mild-split dual-pattern cam, or a drastic-split dual-pattern cam, since there is no exhaust info?
I will ask, but the point is that I shouldn't have to. They should have offered it, since they didn't post it on their website as they should have. The $575 price is good, but because they hide the info, and for no other reason, I'm going to spend another $120 for Brodix IK180 heads, which are made in the USA, which isn't an issue to me in this particular case, (when the chinese part is an exact clone of something R&D'ed by someone like Edelbrock, then I buy american, but the guy in a sweat shop deserves my help) but the Brodix is also offered with 70cc combustion chambers, though I don't need them this time, and Brodix gives all the info you could think to ask for, right up front. Plus the IK180s reach the 245 cfm point down around .500" lift. With a 5cc smaller port. That's a good thing.

 

If you looking for cheap heads to have someone local port for you....pro-comps....not so good out of box....but cheap like $400 / set, but lots of room for a good porter to make them great.........brodix make a great head, also flow numbers on heads are about usless...it depends on how they set them up at flowbench, so two different flow-benches can have two different numbers....go for afr or brodix

 

Some guys won't like my answer but...I would stay away from them, they are hit and miss! I personally have seen two different sets at the machine shop that does all my work, one set would not even pass a vaccum test and one set did...its a crap shoot in my own opinon! For me I would get afr's! I know maybe guys will chime in and say they have them and they work great which I am sure they do. I am just telling you what I saw with my own eyes!!

 

I know most everyone on TGO is gonna try their own porting, at some point, but that has nothing to do with buying cheap aluminum heads, unless you're an extremely advanced porter, like Joe Mondello, or Tony Mamo, or myself.

The exhaust to intake percentage is excellent, if you're not running nitrous or boost, look at single-pattern cams.

i have a problem buying anything chineese - ok some things, but generally im not fond of chineese metalugry or casting quality control.
but that is just me.

 

Yeah, I'll never have a china casting of any kind on my car, as a machinist myself I've had to do finish machine work on some castings made in china, I've seen lots of things in the castings that are not supposed to be there, things like holes where there should be none, can you say vacuum leak!!! I've even seen stuff like rocks and unmelted drill bits in castings!!!

 

Been there, seen and fixed that, but the few sets of Patriots I've had in my hands were fine. One local guy here has a set on his Paxton-supercharged, 351W-powered Mustang, and he's putting down just shy of 600 RWHP. Another guy has them on a 383 in his pickup, it's a farm truck that gets treated like a baja 500 entry when the farm work is done, he's putting down 370 rwhp, and neither of these guys has had any issues. I'm going to order a set of their 320cc heads for my 511 ci rat, put that in my '82 Camaro, and give them a good test of my own.

 

What are they cast from, re-cycled beer cans? I've looked and never found it listed.

I did a little research of "aluminum" when I was considering Patroit heads. I was amazed at how different "aluminum" is once it's been modified for a specific purpose. Once different trace metals are added, the "aluminum" takes on vastly different properties/qualities, some highly desirable in cylinders heads and some not.

Not all "aluminum" used in cylinder heads starts off as "virgin aluminum" but, instead is recycled from a vast array of other previous uses.

Since Patroit doesn't specify in its ads what spec its "aluminum" meets, WARNING BELLS went off in my head. Especially when other companies specifically name the "aluminum" spec/quality used for their castings. Those companies that don't should tell you something or at least make your wonder "why?"

My position, it pays to do your homework.
