pleased help new to chevy ,overheating

ok guys ,87 z 28 350,engine over heating after a diferencial gear swat to 4'11 water is flowing , have no termostat ,disturbutor set to dealer standards ,its feel great but cant go over 55mpg or blowing the engine any advise thanks.......
