Need help ASAP power loss
So got a new tranny in last week and im pretty sure its not my issue, but starting earlyer today i started getting alot of dark smoke pumpin out of my TPI if i gave it around 3/4 throttle. its also got alot of power loss and doesnt seem to wann get the RPMS high enough to shift nicely
ideas? im just looking for some input before i start tryin to geter fixed

When you say you got dark smoke pumping out of your TPI what exactly do u mean by that?

Oh ok yea thats kinda what i thought u meant just clarifying on that. So onto the problem I think it can be said safely that if your pumping out black smoke your running pretty rich which would definitely explain the lack of power. Next questions any check engine codes? I imagin youve might have the one for rich exhaust atleast. Beond checking for trouble codes I suspect the possibility of a fuel injector problem (including the cold start valve if you have one) or a ruptured pressure regulator. So long story short check for codes, test out the injectors, and put the key in run and pop the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel comes out of the vacuum line (from the regulator).

i just had new injectors put in about 2-3 months ago and theyve been working great so i dont tihnk its them, and i dont hae the cold start one either. i work at a chevy dealership so maybe ill get the to scan it for me tomorow , thanks

no i still havent, im rebuilding the engine over winter and deemed it a waste of money to try and fix it right now, as one of the other members said it could be the fuel pressure regulator, in a TPI its like a 700 replacement

If its the FPR, i've added an adjustable fuel pressure regulator from Crane Cams, and it definitely wasn't $700 . I don't think it was more that $50 IIRC.
