Orifice ON Return Line FOr New Fuel Pump

Hey everybody I am doing my first fuel pump changeout and I noticed the new pump (NAPA) has an orifice on the return line (I'm pretty sure its the return line). Compared to the huge line on the old pump I am wondering if this going to be a problem. Everything else on the pump is perfect. Is this a newer design or was my old pump wrong?? Looking for a quick answer as I need it for school tommorow, thanks all!!

Pictures arnt showing up for me. Ive done a few fuel pumps and its a direct swap. Only 1 way to put a new one in.

Or are you replacing the complete sending unit and pump?

I got ahold of my uncle, a mechanic of 30+ years, and he said some of the newer replacement pumps come with an orifice on the return inlet and it was nothing to worry about. Future reference for anyone who is about to replace their fuel pump: getting the pushrod to stay up when you slip in the pump is the hardest part and you definitely need more than two hands.

ahhhh, if the pictures were working , I would have know you were talking mechanical fuel pump .

even on a few carbed engines I've built I run electric fuel pumps. at least ya got your answer and got the pump back on.

Next time you do a mechanical pump pull the rod and rub some axle grease on it and reinstall it and the grease helps hold it in while you put the pump in .
