87 Z28 street/strip project questions
hello there im new to this site, but i have been a member of hotrodders.com for some time now, i figured i would ask some questions of some people who have the experiance in the 3rd gen camaro's, i am putting a 385cid motor with an estimated 515hp/485tq in it, the motor is for the most part done, just needs a few finishing touches, i have a 700r4 from monsters transmission with a 3500 stall, i rebuilt the 7.5 rear with moser 28 spine axles, richmond 4.10's with install kit, eaton posi, 4link, relocated torque arm, panhard bar, and lakewood 90/10 drag struts and shocks all round, i have lifted the rearend of the car about 1", hooker comp headers w/ 3" collector, 3" pipe to dynomax bullets dumping off just after the rear
things to still work on are, coolant system, i would like to go with an aluminum rad and a decent electric fan, but i have heard bad things about the direct fit systems from jeg's and summit, does any one have a comment of this, i also want to fit a trans cooler but not sure if i should go with a frame rail system or can i fit one up to the radiator, i have always had a problem cooling the mild 355 that was in there, in traffic it would reach 220 deg/sometimes higher, unless i got some more wind into the dam
one more is i would like to be able to fit the micky thompson street/drag radials back there and i like the size 295/65r15 but not sure if i can fit them, i know i can fit 275/60r15's cause that was what was back there before, ive seen a stock 3rd gen with 295/50r15'sl and there was no rubbing, i think i can fit the larger tire cause i lifted the rear of the body 1" allready, any comments would be greatly appriciatied

Re: 87 Z28 street/strip project questions
I'm running a stock replacement radiator in mine with a 180 stat and I changed the fan on temp in the prom to 195 off 190. The car hasn't seen 200 since.
I'm also using a trans cooler that's designed for an RV/towing. It's mounted in front of the radiator. Keeps my tranny temps down ~130 while driving.
Couldn't tell you what size meats will fit on your car. I know i'm extremely tight with 255/55/16's MT E/T Streets on mine.
