Good Car Shop?

Hi i'm new here (great site by the way) and i own a 91 305 RS and it needs help, i'm thinking of doing a rebuild because it leaks oil and its very dirty under the car can anyone recommend a good shop and or give me an idea of how much that costs. This car isn't my daily driver so if anyone wants to fix it for free u can keep it for a few months if you need to.:icon_wink: LA Area or surrounding

PS: although i love the 350 and above im looking for the most cost effective way to go. thanks

Re: Good Car Shop?

I would say atleast $1500 to have an engine built then install it yourself, prolly $2000 or so hiring all the work out, maybe more. Figure most shop cost are $55 and hr. I just paid $1295 to have my motor rebuilt and felt like I got a decent deal, lol. Oriellys sells whole block for like 12 something,14 for a 4 bolt. Plus you can pawn off your 305 for your core fee sometimes(helps that I have friends there tho...and how dishonest you maybe, lol). Otherwise core fee will be another $250 I think?

Or depending on mileage you could run it till it dies......

Re: Good Car Shop?

Search passing smog and other key terms. Bunch of people have posted about that. Just something else to consider, how many miles you can get out of the motor with the cost of getting it smog ready factored in versus a new motor. I don't know whats involved in passing and preparing for smog test. My car runs about 3 feet of pipe after the headers then nothing else so......yea....no eco or smog friendly, fortunately my city doesn't have any test . Much research and much luck to ya
