Once again sorry,sure its a dumb question but never done this before so learning alot. I just about have my motor ready to come out for its replacement.
What I need to know is if theres any good way to get the flywheel off the converter? The bolts have been on for 20 years or so and won't move. Used a 2 foot break over bar an everything. Have my prob is I lose all my power because the fly wheel spins. Can I put someone on the harmonic balancer with a ratchet wrench or something?
Was also wondering if the 305 flywheel can be used on the 350? Both use a 168 tooth wheel right? Last thing I noticed is when I pulled my brand new starter off the teeth on the gear were curved and bent up. The flywheel didn't look to bad but a few sections of teeth,bout 8 in a row in several places were a little raw(been rubbing,shiny metal). Prolly just need to shim out the starter right?
If the fly wheel would convert and advice for removal is main thing I needed but figured I would through the other in since I making the post. Goal is to have this engine out and new engine in by the end of next weekend.

They sell a special tool to hold flywheel dont know whether autozone will loan it to you or not also spray knockloose on it for two or three days.

 

Flywheel off your converter? Do you mean the flexplate?

If your tranny is an auto, it's called a flexplate just for clarification.

OR you simply wedge a screwdriver between the block and teeth

 

Thanks, see if I can't pick that up as a loaner tool from oriely's or something. I thought about the screwdriver or a rock or something but was just worried I may do some damage since some of the teeth on the flexplate already were slightly damaged. Of course as old as it is I guess I should be happy the wheel looks as good as it does,lol.
